Blowing The Whistle On Bad, Hateful Journalism, Part 7
WorldNetDaily's David Kupelian thinks that anyone who's not as far-right as he is lives in "Opposite Land." Plus: Alleged "Secrets of the Deep State," and criticizing right-wing Christianity.
(Previously: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5 , Part 6)
The theme of the April 2024 edition of WorldNetDaily’s sparsely read Whistleblower magazine is “OPPOSITE LAND: A stunning tour of the Left’s total inversion of morality, history and reality” — which, of course, is yet another excuse for WND managing editor David Kupelian to rage against and demonize anyone who’s not as far-right as he is. Kupelian started off his essay for the issue by showing that he’s the one who’s living in opposite land:
Whether viewed through the prism of power politics, ideology, psychology or religious faith, the Democratic Party of 2024 has become a daily showcase of exactly the kind of remorseless lying, gaslighting and projection – i.e., calling “evil good, and good evil” – that is condemned in the Bible.
In fact, Democrats’ 180-degree moral-inversion modus operandi has become so reliably extreme that it has evolved into something of a crystal ball, allowing one to discern not only what the far-left ruling elites are secretly doing right now, but also what they intend to do next.
How can that be? By careful noting the crimes, conspiracies and corruption which Democrat leaders falsely accuse conservatives of perpetrating, one can gain uncannily accurate insight into the very crimes, conspiracies and corruption they themselves are covertly pursuing right now – and planning for the future.
In Kupelian’s world, Republicans never do anything wrong and they’re always innocent victims — he fell into the Trump cult some time back, after all. To support his claims, Kupelian simply (and lazily) parrots right-wing anti-Biden narratives. For instance:
* Democrats accuse Republicans of being lawless, a claim epitomized by their massive lawfare campaign against the GOP’s current leader, President Donald J. Trump, who in a short period of time has been accused of over 100 different crimes in left-wing jurisdictions nationwide – all in an effort to block his reelection and make sure he dies in prison. Yet despite the prevailing Opposite Land narrative, reality turns out to be quite different: Democrats have proven to be the lawless party, abusing America’s best-in-the-world legal system in its wild persecution of Trump. The truth of this assessment was affirmed recently by the Supreme Court’s humiliating unanimous decision annihilating one of the Democrats’ lawfare cases against Trump. Ironically, while Democrats claim the 45th president is a big-time criminal, in reality it is Joe Biden, America’s 46th president, who heads up an actual crime family involving at least a dozen family members, as House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has revealed.
Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyo., recently put it this way: “I believe that this is the most corrupt family ever in a position of power in this country’s history. We’re talking about a level of corruption that is so far beyond what we’ve seen with previous political leaders.”
Kupelian then ranted that those who committed criminal acts during the Capitol riot were treated like, um, the criminals they are:
* Far worse than Democrats’ persecution of Donald Trump and simultaneous defense of an epically corrupt man like Joe Biden is their mass criminal prosecutions and imprisonment of hundreds of innocent, patriotic Americans for simply protesting the theft of the 2020 election. In so doing, the Biden administration has embraced the kind of unthinkable political weaponization of the legal system that previously was associated with the most brutal and corrupt Third World dictators.
Ultimately, the hundreds of unjust Jan. 6 prosecutions, convictions and lengthy incarcerations are simply part of Democrats’ appalling campaign to brand not just Trump, but his supporters, as terrorists and “insurrectionists” attempting to overthrow America’s constitutional system of government.
But being Opposite Land, that analysis is not only nonsensical, it is precisely opposite to the truth: Attempting to undermine the American constitutional system, for which the elites have barely disguised contempt, is precisely what today’s Democratic leadership does 24/7, as many of the following examples demonstrate.
How is it “weaponization of the legal system” to prosecute people for criminal behavior that, in many cases, was captured on video for all to see? This is another instance in which Kupelian is giving a pass to criminal behavior because it was done to further his political narratives.
Kupelian then served up some revisionist history:
* Democrats daily accuse Republicans, as well as essentially the entire American middle class, of being racists, bigots and white supremacists. In reality, of course, it is Democrats who have historically, generation after generation, practiced and championed overt racism: Democrats were the party of slavery, while the Republican Party came into existence in 1854 explicitly as the “anti-slavery party.” Democrats opposed Reconstruction after the Civil War and founded the Ku Klux Klan in 1865, making up most of its membership. They were likewise the main force behind Jim Crow laws for many decades afterward.
Fast-forward to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. The great American middle class had largely been persuaded by the noble, nonviolent movement, capped off by Rev. Martin Luther King’s stirring “I have a dream” speech in August of 1963, that they too, like King, desired to “live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Yet the following year, it was Senate Democrats who filibustered the historic 1964 Civil Rights Act for an astounding 60 days – the longest filibuster in U.S. history – in a desperate attempt to block the anti-segregation bill’s passage.
Today, 60 years later in 2024 America, it is Democrats, not Republicans, who are utterly obsessed with hiring and firing, promoting and demoting, rewarding and punishing, favoring and rejecting people solely on the basis of their skin color. Long forsaken by the left is the entire Civil Rights Movement and MLK’s cherished “dream” of a color-blind America.
And yet, according to the party that championed slavery, opposed Reconstruction, pushed Jim Crow laws and tried desperately to kill the ’64 Civil Rights Act, the United States of America – hands-down the least racist nation in all of history – is irredeemably racist. And all because of those racist, white-supremacist, Klan-loving Republicans!
That’s what it means to live in Opposite Land.
But as the link Kupelian supplied to back up his claim pointed out, it was anti-integration Southern Democrats — not the entire party — that pushed the filibuster, and it was a bipartisan coalition of Democrats and Republicans that overcame it. He also failed to mention, as we’ve previously noted, that one prominent Republican — Barry Goldwater, the 1964 Republican candidate for president — opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and that played a major role in shifting the South to Republican and establish the Republican Party as being opposed to civil rights. That’s a bit of opposite-land stuff you won’t hear about from Kupelian.
After mini-screeds about how “Democrats’ opposition to Voter ID persists in an era when the Biden administration has intentionally engineered a massive foreign invasion of non-citizens into America” and how “America’s children are being groomed and seduced into undergoing horrendous transgender amputation surgeries and other unthinkable and irreversible medical ‘treatments’ that literally destroy their lives – leading many to commit suicide,” rehashed old attacks on Antifa:
Also on the fascism front, there is the violent, fascist domestic-terror group Antifa, which ironically stands for “anti-fascist,” and which in 2020 Joe Biden bizarrely announced was a nonexistent group, calling it “an idea, not an organization.” In reality, of course, as the world saw during the summer of 2020, Antifa, along with Black Lives Matter, engaged in a five-month mega-orgy of violence across America. During this unprecedented rolling riot, they terrorized and ransacked many major U.S. cities, caused over $2 billion in property damage, wounded some 1,200 law enforcement officers and caused the deaths of at least 25 people.
Kupelian offered no evidence that Antifa is, in fact, an actual organization with leaders and headquarters. He then rehashed another of his bugaboos:
Diving just a bit deeper, the real reason for this “lawlessness” phenomenon comes clearly into view: Opposition to God and His laws of life in order to play god, to invent their own reality and force everyone else to accept it – that comprises the mind and substance of the lawless left, and always has since the days of Karl Marx. To justify this lawlessness and maintain their illusion of moral superiority over others, leftists have to portray conservatives – i.e. normal people who hold to society’s traditional values derived largely from the Bible – as evil. Which is why Democrat leaders in the U.S. and their allies in the media continually, year after year, compare Donald Trump to Hitler. It’s transparently insane, of course; Hitler murdered 11 million people, Trump murdered zero. Yet they persist because they desperately need their lying, cheating and lawless ways to somehow be counted as just, noble and good.
Consider that Nazi Germany was the one scenario in modern history regarding which most people would agree that lying, cheating and even attempts at assassination were moral in the quest to rid that nation of a true monster of a leader, to end a terrible war and save millions of innocent lives. Therefore, lying, cheating and breaking all the rules, at least in that time and place, were not only moral, but a moral imperative. This is precisely why Democrats persist in the abominable and dangerous practice of defaming the 45th president as another Hitler. They detest rules, and if Trump is Hitler, they can break free of all the moral and legal rules that hold decent civilizations together.
Funny, Kupelian didn’t think it was “abominable and dangerous” when he published numerous writers defaming Barack Obama as a Nazi. As we’ve pointed out, Kupelian has never apologized for those smears, which makes his continued whining about Trump-HItler analogies utterly hypocritical.
Which, again, means that Kupelian is the one living in Opposite Land. This is also demonstrated by his apparent belief that right-wing screeds like his — as well as his editorial policies of publishing fake news and conspiracies — are keeping WND flush with cash when the truth is the exact opposite.
‘Secrets of the Deep State’
The theme of the May 2024 issue of Whistleblower was “Secrets of the Deep State,” and it is unsurprisingly filled with all the conspiracy theories you’ve come to expect with the term, as well as its purported threat to Donald Trump:
Consider the undeniable truth that not only Donald Trump, but also the tens of millions of decent, law-abiding, America-loving citizens who intend to vote for him this November, somehow inspire unending fear and loathing throughout the Washington, D.C. ruling class. That would include not only the ever-more-deranged Democratic Party and the entire “mainstream media” (today a virtual clone of the former Soviet Union’s fake news organs Pravda and Izvestia, which published only official government propaganda), but also the “Deep State,” the permanent federal government bureaucracy that remains – and grows ever larger, like “The Blob” in the classic horror film – regardless of which party is currently “in power.”
One key part of this gargantuan permanent bureaucracy, which operates largely in darkness, has recently been dragged into the light, exposing its hidden but central role in the censorship and silencing of all who oppose the Deep State and its increasingly totalitarian agenda. That highly influential entity, about which most people know very little, is the federal defense/foreign-policy establishment widely referred to within the Capital Beltway simply as … “The Blob.”
Kupelian’s essay for the issue, published at WND on May 8, served up more of the same, hyping how “Former Trump State Department official Mike Benz, who currently serves as executive director of the Foundation for Freedom Online, has turned whistleblower and dramatically gone public with exactly how the Western defense and foreign policy establishment has been turned against America, the Bill of Rights and democracy itself.” Kupelian didn’t mention that Benz had recently been exposed as a creator of videos promoting racist and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories while posting under the name Frame Game.
Kupelian rehashed numerous debunked right-wing conspiracy, such as “the claim that supposedly subversive domestic groups and individuals were spreading “Russian disinformation,” which of course was a key focal point for the years-long near-destruction of Donald Trump’s presidency. As it turned out, of course, the claim that Trump ‘colluded with the Russians’ was not only definitively proven to be entirely false; it was created (and the damning ‘Trump dossier’ actually paid for) by the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton, who actually did collude big-time with the Russians.” In fact, the Mueller report exposed that the 2016 Trump campaign met dozens of times with Russian operatives, its campaign manager shared internal polling data with another Russian operative, and Russia did, in fact, interfere in the campaign with the intent of helping Trump win.
Kupelian also complained that “parents who would stand up and speak their minds at school board meetings to complain about teachers indoctrinating their children with Marxist propaganda – could possibly be maligned by the Biden administration as “violent extremists” and possible “domestic terrorists.” In fact, no parent was ever targeted as a “violent extremist” merely for speaking at a school board meeting — but the ones who issued violent threats against teachers and school board members were. Kupelian appears to be cool with such violent threats. But facts don’t matter to Kupelian when he has a conspiratorial narrative to push:
How can that possibly be? How can good people ridiculously be likened to “domestic terrorists”? What’s really behind the official government obsession with targeting for censorship large swaths of political and cultural views they label “misinformation,” “disinformation” and an Orwellian term that never before existed – “malinformation,” defined as truth that nevertheless causes harm?
It’s all because, according to the permanent government in Washington, all of this “mis-,” “dis-” and “mal”-information represents a huge threat to … “DEMOCRACY.”
[…]
In reality, of course, they loathe true democracy, the idea that “the rabble” might choose their own king, so to speak. In fact, a shocking new Rasmussen survey shows that when polled, more than two-thirds of America’s wealthiest and most politically engaged elites – 69% of them – admitted they would be willing to win an election by cheating. That kind of attitude and willingness to literally lie, cheat and steal one’s way into gaining and holding power, helps explain not only the entire “Trump-Russia collusion” hoax, which became a Deep State pretext for censoring all of Trump’s supporters, but also the continual and ever-expanding persecution and mass lawfare campaign directed at Donald Trump himself.
The Washington establishment being described here, which as Trump boldly proclaimed shortly before the 2016 election, will do literally anything “to hold on to their prestige and power at your expense,” obviously has nothing but contempt for actual democracy. Rather, these people openly champion political corruption, censorship, oppression, persecution and an utterly undemocratic ruling system – as long as it’s run by them.
As if Kupelian wouldn’t endorse the same if he and his fellow right-wingers ever take power.
‘America’s All-Out Religious War’
The July 2024 issue of Whistleblower is themed “AMERICA’S ALL-OUT RELIGIOUS WAR,” but what it really means is that Christian nationalism and Israel’s prosecution of the war in Gaza is being criticized. The promo copy for the issue packs in various right-wing grievances into this argument:
Before exploring the astonishing reality of what is actually occurring just below most Americans’ “radar” – that is, an actual religious war raging throughout the land, which will explain not only the explosion of anti-Israel/anti-Jewish hatred, but a great deal more – let’s pause and set the stage by briefly surveying a few of the other once-unthinkable battles now playing out in today’s America.
There’s the naked “lawfare” persecution of the ruling regime’s opposition candidate, the 45th president of the United States, Donald J. Trump. And the shocking prosecution and lengthy imprisonment of hundreds of decent, America-loving, Trump-supporting “January 6” political prisoners cynically branded “domestic terrorists” and “violent insurrectionists.”
There’s the intentional flooding of America with literally millions of illegal aliens, including known terrorists, gang members, convicted criminals, mental patients, drug traffickers, human traffickers, communist Chinese militia and satanists (MS-13). What could possibly go wrong?
There’s the widespread grooming and recruitment of multitudes of American youths – children too young to legally drive a car or vote – into undergoing ghastly, irreversible surgical procedures, from double mastectomies to mutilation of their sexual organs. Such “gender-affirming medical care’ condemns them to a lifetime of unbearable conflict, misery, regret and a suicide rate seven times that of other American teens.
There’s the ruinous inflation that is impoverishing millions … and the nation’s crime-ravaged cities … and the 100,000-plus annual drug-overdose deaths … and the intentional destruction of the nation’s energy sector … and the catastrophic debasement of the American military. And so much more.
In the context of our 35,000-foot aerial panorama of a supremely troubled nation, let’s now narrow our focus onto one particular battle scene that will readily illuminate the true nature of the religious war consuming America.
No evidence is offered of “widespread grooming” — which was what right-wingers currently call teaching children that non-heterosexual people are not evil — or that immigration into the U.S. is “intentional,” or that prosecuting Trump for the crimes he committed is “lawfare.”
The lead essay for the issue by managing editor David Kupelian bashes a group called “Queers for Palestine” for supporting the people there:
To get right to the nuclear core of the issue, consider the influential, passionately pro-Hamas umbrella group calling itself “Queers for Palestine.” Across America, LGBT groups have played a major role in demonstrations against Israel and demanding the “liberation of Palestine – from the River to the Sea.” In other words, the total annihilation of Israel.
But wait. There’s a slight problem with “Queers for Palestine.”
“Queers” (the current LGBT-preferred term for sexual and gender identities other than heterosexual) are hated, reviled, persecuted, prosecuted, imprisoned, tortured and executed in Palestinian areas – in stark contrast with Israel which, like America, is accepting of homosexuals and other “queer” folk.
Remember all those news stories and viral videos depicting Muslim radicals throwing homosexuals head-first off tall buildings to their death? That is exactly what “Queers for Palestine” would experience if they actually moved to Palestinian-occupied areas. And that’s if they’re lucky. In many cases their fate would be far more grisly.
[…]
So, one might reasonably conclude that those who, under the “Queers for Palestine” banner, are protesting Israel and praising Palestinians so passionately are either grossly ignorant … or insane and suicidal.
On top of offering no evidence to back up his claim that Queers for Palestine is “influential” or “pro-Hamas,” Nowhere did Kupelian himself disapprove of how those “Muslim radicals” treat gay people — suggesting that he has a grudging admiration of them for getting away with dispatching non-heterosexual people in such a violent manner, and he wishes he could get away with doing that here.
Kupelian then tried to baselessly redefine Marxism as a religion:
The other religion is even more dangerous, powerful and seductive than Islam – and that’s Marxism.
“What’s that?” you say? “Marxism isn’t a religion – it’s atheistic! Religion requires a belief in God.” Really? The world’s fourth-largest religion, Buddhism, with over 500 million adherents, does not profess a belief in God. But at least Buddhism’s stated goal is to lead its adherents to “enlightenment.” Marxism’s goal is to create a god, albeit a false and inevitably evil one. That is to say, Marxism is obsessed with creating a god-like and all-powerful (and tyrannical) government.
“OK,” one might say, “But how does that explain Queers for Palestine?”
All religions – including Marxism – provide some sort of formula or pathway for the faithful to achieve redemption, innocence or righteousness, or at least for being one of the world’s “good people.”
How is that accomplished? How are the multitudes of lost, confused, corrupted and essentially atheistic youths in today’s America “saved” by Marxism?
Although communism originally pitted the “oppressors” (the predatory capitalist elite) against the “oppressed” (the noble “workers of the world”), the meaning of “oppressor” and “oppressed” has radically evolved over the decades.
Neo-Marxism, the de facto religion of today’s Democratic Party, preaches that the world’s population is composed of two classes of people: the oppressors and the oppressed, the colonizers and the colonized, discriminators and the victims of discrimination. The former are evil. The latter are good. Period.
Today in America, the “oppressors” are primarily white people, especially men – the privileged progeny of slave-owners, Klansmen and maybe Nazis – who have somehow rigged the system to favor them and crush everyone else. Same with Israel, where, after all, most Jews are “white.”
The “oppressed” are all of those “discriminated-against” and “underserved” “minority groups” that constitute Democrats’ voting base, including blacks, Hispanics, various “indigenous peoples” and other “people of color,” all those identifying as “LGBTQIA+” … and Muslims, which includes Palestinians.
Again, he provides no evidence that Marxism is “the de facto religion of today’s Democratic Party.” He simply (and lazily) wants to tar non-conservatives with the term so he has an excuse to dehumanize them — all the better to justify spewing hate at anyone who’s not as far-right as he is.
Interestingly, the end of the promo article contains this message about deadline slippage:
Important note: Although last month’s Whistleblower issue was dated “May,” we are labeling this issue “July” simply to catch up – that is, to better align each Whistleblower issue’s date with when print subscribers actually receive their magazines in the mail. So, while there’s no issue dated “June,” subscribers will still receive a full 12 editions with their one-year subscription. Thanks for your understanding!
Does WND’s recent cattle call for people to write and produce Whistleblower have anything to do with all this deadline slippage? Perhaps!
Cattle call
Last year, WorldNetDaily put out a cattle call for writers for its website, claiming the job was about “writing news and reporting the truth accurately” while hiding the fact that it’s really about spreading fake news and conspiracy theories. (And it made sure not to mention pay given that there probably won’t be much of that.) A June 6 article made a similar cattle call for workers for WND’s sparsely read magazine:
WND’s critically acclaimed Whistleblower magazine needs an experienced journalist to assist long-time WND Managing Editor, author and Whistleblower Editor David Kupelian to produce the magazine each month. This is a full-time job, involving writing and editing duties for WND.com as well as Whistleblower.
Kupelian has produced Whistleblower for the last 25 years, but because of WND’s recent growth and his expanded responsibilities, could use another editor dedicated to helping with the monthly magazine.
Readers routinely describe Whistleblower magazine as “a light in a dark world,” “a breath of fresh air” and “dead-on and razor-sharp,” while Rabbi Jonathan Cahn describes Whistleblower simply as “brilliant.”
Applicant must have a strong Judeo-Christian worldview, possess a broad understanding of the American political-cultural landscape, be very plugged in to current news, and have top-notch writing skills. An eye for design and interior graphics is a plus.
In other words: Kupelian wants someone who’s as much of a far-right Christian as he is. Also note that fairness and truthfulness is not a requirement; as we’ve documented, Whistleblower is basically all about how Kupelian can spew hate at anyone who’s not as far-right as he is, using misinformation and highly biased language to hammer home the magazine’s theme of the month (around which Kupelian has written a screed) in a sufficiently hateful manner.
The article offers no proof for the claim that WND has seen “recent growth” — it has made no statement about its revenue since it offloaded reporting operations to the non-profit WND News Center, so it’s hard to tell. Still, the article concluded by stating, “Only experienced journalists need apply.” It’s hard to see genuine self-respecting “experienced journalists” showing an interest in this position unless they’re desperate for a job (which, unfortunately, is entirely possible given the state of the news industry these days).
The fact that WND has to resort to cattle calls to recruit writers is an indication of just how low its journalistic status is — only WND readers inculcated in its culture of fake news and conspiracy theories are likely to fit the bill as a WND employee.
